Bob Gregor
Bob Gregor, class of 1975, distinguished himself as a three-time varsity letter athlete, competing in basketball, track & field, and football. While he primarily played guard and forward during basketball season, his defensive skills stood out, often tasked with guarding the opposing team's strongest player—a role he took great pride in.
In track & field, Bob showcased his versatility and commitment to success. Despite initially disliking events like the 440-yard dash and triple jump, he surprisingly excelled in them. Notably, during his sophomore year, Bob's 440-yard relay team set a school record, and by his senior year, he held the 440-yard dash record.
Bob's high school football career was characterized by versatility, as he played positions including wide receiver, defensive back, running back, and punter. His coaches valued his ability to contribute across various roles on the field. However, his senior year was abruptly halted by a fractured forearm sustained during the first game while playing running back, leading to surgery and an early end to his season.
Despite this setback, Bob's talent had already attracted the notice of college scouts, resulting in a full scholarship offer from Washington State University to play defensive back. At WSU, Bob's contributions were significant, starting and lettering for three years and serving as a co-captain during his senior year. His exceptional performance led to his selection for the 1980 East-West Shrine Game. Subsequently, he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round and played for five years as both a free and strong safety.
