Whitney Casey, class of 1993, was a three-time All-EBAL Volleyball player and Team MVP. Whitney came to Monte Vista as a sophomore transfer and set the bar for future Mustangs to meet.  She brought with her explosive attacks, intentional defense, a signature jump serve that changed Monte Vista volleyball, and a style of play that challenged opposing schools to change and grow their game.  Whitney’s name is at the top of the list of players who had the greatest impact on the game of volleyball in the area. 

 

Whitney attended both the University of Southern California and the University of Virginia where she was a full scholarship Academic All-American volleyball player. She was already a volleyball star when she came to UVA in 1994, after transferring from the University of Southern California. The Cavaliers were 1-31 the season before her arrival and improved to 24-10 her final year. She led the team in kills, digs and service aces each season, served as team captain in the 1996 season and was named an Academic All-American. In 1997, Casey received UVA’s David F. Cooke Award for her leadership and athletic and academic achievements.

 

In her professional life, Whitney has worked for more than a decade in consumer tech. Prior to starting her own company, she reported to the CEO of Match.com. During her five years at Match, she was responsible for working with product, growth and executive teams.  Before joining the tech world, Whitney had a storied career in media.  She has worked as an anchor/correspondent for CNN, ABC, NBC News and CBS in New York.  She's earned two Emmys, penned a syndicated column and authored a bestselling book.
