2018 Women's Soccer Team

The 2017–2018 Women’s Soccer Team put together one of the most dominant seasons in prep soccer history. Led by coaches Chris Lum and Karen “Petie” Huether, the Mustangs finished 25-1-1, earned the No. 1 national ranking from MaxPreps, and outscored opponents 96-10.
The Mustangs won the East Bay Athletic League championship, followed by the North Coast Section Division I championship with a 3-1 victory over Carondelet. On March 10, 2018, Monte Vista capped the season with a 1-0 win over Archbishop Mitty to claim the CIF Northern California Division I Regional Championship.
The regional championship secured Monte Vista the No. 1 ranking in both California and the nation and earned the team a spot on the MaxPreps Tour of Champions, which recognized the top high school soccer teams in the country.
The roster included several players who went on to successful collegiate and professional careers. Midfielder Megan Edelman was later named Cal-Hi Sports Player of the Year and played at UCLA, where she won an NCAA national championship. Team captain Julia Leontini played at Stanford for four years before transferring to Cal for her fifth year. Defender Sydney Shepard anchored the Mustangs’ back line and was named EBAL Most Valuable Player during her Monte Vista career. She went on to play at Michigan, where she won a Big Ten championship, and later competed professionally in Sweden, Portugal, and Greece.
