Athletics Philosophy

Monte Vista High School recognizes that its interscholastic athletic program in an integral part of the total educational program. It is our philosophy to provide a positive atmosphere of sportsmanship and learning, both at practice sessions and interscholastic events, and at the same time provide a healthy competitive experience for our students. We encourage students to strive for excellence and to make interscholastic competitions rewarding and memorable.

Monte Vista offers a variety of freshman, junior varsity, and varsity-level sports. As a member of the California Interscholastic Federation and the East Bay Athletic League, athletics have enjoyed a long tradition of numerous league and North Coast Section championships. Recent updates in the track, football field, gymnasium, and pool facilities allow for an athletic environment where students are able to excel to their fullest potential. From golf to tennis and cross country to lacrosse, Monte Vista boasts a multitude of sports, where each student can join the ideal team.

Message from our
Athletic Director

It is an honor and a privilege to be the Athletic Director at Monte Vista High School. Mustang teams have a long-standing tradition of athletic excellence with outstanding student-athletes and coaches. The primary goal of the athletic program is to achieve success in all academic and competitive endeavors. A positive athletic program can contribute significantly to school morale and community pride. While winning is important, teamwork and sportsmanship are always emphasized.

We expect that all students in our program will develop physically, mentally, and socially. Our coaches strive daily to have a positive impact on each student-athletes’s life, helping him or her achieve their maximum potential. Student-athlete success is facilitated by being prepared, maintaining a positive attitude, and being dedicated to a common cause.

I am excited about the future of Monte Vista athletics, and I look forward to working with our students, coaches, faculty, staff, and parents.

Go Mustangs!

Positive Coaching Alliance
“Positive Coaching Alliance stands up against the win-at-all-cost mentality prevalent in youth sports today. Youth sports done right is a joyous experience that creates not just better athletes, but more importantly, better people. PCA works with schools to provide training for parents, coaches, leaders and athletes, with the ultimate goal of giving every child a positive, character-building sports experience.”

Funding Athletics
High School athletics in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District are "self-funded." The athletic programs do not receive funding for equipment, uniforms, transportation, officials, or most coaching stipends. As such, participation contributions are solicited to fund these valuable programs. We encourage all interested students to try out for athletic teams. Participation in athletic programs is not dependent on financial contributions.

Athletic Boosters
The mission of the Monte Vista Athletic Booster Club is to promote and provide programs and projects which will enable the booster club to contribute additional funding to ensure the continuance of necessary and viable athletic programs; enlist strong community and parent support for athletics; provide our student-athletes with proper and necessary equipment and facilities; and act as a liaison between the school administration, coaches, parents and athletes of Monte Vista High School. MVAB supports all Monte Vista sports teams through activities such as spirit wear sales, the Mustang VIP Card with access to football and basketball games, student-athlete scholarships, stadium advertising and snack shack, and parent events such as the annual Crab Feed. Additional information about these activities and how to become involved with MVAB can be found on our website.
